Written By: Ben Drury

This weekend the Kewpies of the Hickman High School cross country team headed to Binder Park in Jefferson City, Missouri for the CMAC (Central Missouri Activities Conference) championships meet. Hickman had three teams representing them at this meet with the girl’s and boy’s varsity, and the boy’s JV. In all three races, Hickman performed amazingly, placing well as a team in all races. Hickman also had multiple runners that earned all-conference honors, there are three different sections of all-conference, runners placing 1-5 got first team honors, 6-10 finishers received second team honors, and 11-15 received a honorable mention. This course was not easy by any means, but in all races, the Hickman team still performed well. Let me start with more details of the girl’s varsity.

In the first race of the day, the Hickman girl’s varsity team started the day off right with a third-place team finish out of 6 teams and 43 runners. Hickman had one runner in the top 15 and received all-conference honors. Ellie Eastman, junior, placed third and ran a time of 20:30 to receive 1st team all-conference honors.

Following the girl’s varsity race was the boy’s varsity race. Hickman placed well, placing 2nd in a field of 49 runners and 7 teams. They also had 3 runners receive all-conference honors, junior Max Hogan was their first finisher in a time 16:35 and placed 6th to get 2nd team all-conference honors, next was fellow junior Hank Cummings in 9th place running 17:01 to also receive 2nd team all-conference honors, then was senior Sean Keys who placed behind Cummings to place 10th and run 17:03 to receive 2nd team all-conference honors.

In the last race of the day, the boy’s JV, Hickman had another 2nd place finish in a race with 50 runners and 4 teams. They also placed 6 runners in the top 15, sophomore Nick Current started off scoring placing 6th running 18:36, next was another sophomore Joe Waller who placed 8th and ran 18:39, after Waller was freshman Hogan Benter who ran 18:53 and placed 10th, after Benter there was two more freshman George Nichols (11th, 19:04), and Mac Roodhouse (12th, 19:14), and Hickman’s final runner in the top 15 was senior Evan Diblasi who placed 14th and ran 19:36. Another JV runner that had a great race was junior Victor Mariano Sanchez, as he set a PR by 2 minutes.
