9/24/23: The Kewpie Kooldown: Gans Creek Classic

This weekend the Hickman Kewpies competed in one of the biggest meets in Missouri, the Gans Creek Classic. The Gans Creek Classic is held at Gans Creek cross country course, one of the best cross country courses in the nation. For the past four years this meet has been the home for great performances and this year did not disappoint. For this race each level of racing (JV,Varsity) was split up by gold, blue, and white divisions. The race divisions were based on competitiveness, gold is the most competitive, then blue, and finally white.
In the girls races, Hickman only had girls racing in the girl’s gold varsity race. Hickman had a good race placing 33rd out of 35 teams. They had three runners in the top 200, including junior Ellie Eastman, who placed 86th and ran a time of 21:04, the second Hickman runner was sophomore Zoe O’Laughlin who placed 154th in a time of 22:14, then there was another sophomore Natalie Keenoy, who placed 184th and ran 22:44.
On the boy’s side Hickman was represented in two different races, the boy’s gold varsity and boy’s gold JV. In the boy’s gold varsity, Hickman had their top four runners in the top 200, and they placed 26th out 43 teams as a team. Their top finisher was junior Max Hogan, Hogan finished in 39th place in a time of 16:38. Following Hogan was senior Sean Keys, who ran 17:21 to place 114th, Hank Cummings, a junior followed suit after Keys in a placing 120th and a time 17:25, then there was another junior Josh Brinkman who placed 185th and ran 18:03.
In Hickman’s final race of the day, the boy’s gold JV, Hickman placed all of their top seven in the top 200. Hickman’s scoring began with freshman Hogan Benter who placed 87th in a time of 19:32, then it was Jack Denehy, freshman (127th,19:59), Yule Yoon, junior (152nd, 20:32), Jacob Wright, freshman (153rd,20:33), Zeke Lee, junior (169th,20:44), Mac Roodhouse, freshman (171st,20:47), and Ethan Dunn, freshman (181st,20:52).
