Race of The Day
The Race of The Day today is the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase final. If you don’t know what the steeplechase is or have never heard of it, well let me explain. The steeplechase is one of the most entertaining events in track and field and for good reason. It is an event that mixes a distance race and implements hurdles or as they’re called in this event, barriers. Every lap, runners have to jump over a series of barriers, and then once every lap they have to go over a water barrier, where they jump into a shallow pool of water. This specific final is also going to be a great race to watch because there are so many great runners who haven’t been to the Olympics but are more than capable of qualifying to their first one today.
Athlete Spotlight
Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the reigning Olympic champion and the World Record holder in the 400m Hurdles and she begins her title defense today in the Prelims. McLaughlin-Levrone has only run one 400m Hurdles race this year, however she has plenty of time to get ready before the finals. But, I don’t think McLaughlin-Levrone will need to do much to get ready because she is just that good. There is no doubt in my mind that McLaughlin-Levrone’s path to the finals, and to the Olympics will be easy and once there I believe she will defend her title. She is incredibly entertaining to watch, and that is why you need to watch her today.
Grant Fisher
Grant Fisher is coming off of winning the 10k earlier this week, and that is going to give him confidence as he tries to win the distance double. As of late, Fisher has cemented himself as the best American distance runner. He has run some of the fastest times in history, breaking multiple American records. Today, Fisher will compete in the prelims of the Men’s 5000m today and I believe even though it will be tough to make the Olympic team in this event, Fisher will be able to do it nonetheless. Fisher, like McLaughlin-Levrone, is incredibly entertaining, and you need to watch him today.
