Big News in Eugene

3 World Champions breeze through Prelims

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles, and Sha’Carri Richardson are all multi-time World Champions and it showed yesterday. All three athletes competed in the prelims of their respective events, McLaughlin-Levrone 400m Hurdles, Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson in the 200m. I really shouldn’t say compete because it wasn’t much of a competition, all three easily won their heats and will compete later this weekend. On average, the three athletes won their respective heats by 1.25 seconds, so I’d say they breezed through it pretty easily. Richardson and Lyles compete again today in the 200m semifinals.

Women’s 3k Steeplechase final becomes race of the week

Yesterday, I named the women’s 3k steeplechase final the Race of The Day, and it did not disappoint. Not only did it surpass my expectations, but it became the most entertaining race of the week thus far. Valerie Constien not only came away with a win but she also broke the Trials Meet Record. But, it doesn’t stop there, this race was so fast that everyone in the top nine set PRs and got the Olympic Standard. In Paris, Constien will be joined by Courtney Wayment who ran 9:06.50, to place second. Marisa Howard will also join them in Paris, Howard placed third and ran a time of 9:07.14. Over the past few years, the U.S. has done well at the Olympics in this event, and I don’t think that will stop now.

Race of The Day

The Race of The Day today is the Men’s 110m Hurdles. I picked this race as the Race of The Day because 1) any hurdle event is super entertaining and fun to watch and 2) this specific race is filled with incredibly talented men, and it will be fun to watch. Led by Grant Holloway (more on him later) the field of men that is assembled for this race is incredibly fast. With former representatives at World Championships such as Cordell Tinch, Freddie Crittenden, and Trey Cunningham pushing Holloway for the win, this race is going to be something special, and you don't want to miss out.

Athlete Spotlight

Elle St. Pierre

If you have been reading these newsletters, you probably know who Elle St. Pierre is, and if you don’t, you should. St. Pierre is fresh off of winning the 5000m title, and she will be doubling back in the semifinals of the 1500m today. Some may say that St. Pierre’s best event is the 1500m and I agree. St. Pierre is one of the favorites in the 1500m and there is no doubt in my mind that she could complete the double of 1500m-5000m at this competition. St. Pierre is super fun to watch, and if you aren’t planning to, make sure you watch her race tonight.

Grant Holloway

Grant Holloway is the best American 110m Hurdler of all time, maybe even in the world, and you need to watch him today. Holloway has one of the best winning streaks in all of track and field, he hasn’t lost in three years, (knock on wood that doesn’t end today.) Holloway also holds the American record in this event. He has placed second at the Olympics, and has won multiple World titles. If what I have just said doesn’t make you want to watch Grant Holloway run, then I don’t know what will. Holloway is competing in the finals of the 110m Hurdles, and he is an athlete you need to watch for.
