Big News in Budapest
Podium Contenders out of final
Yesterday, three athletes who were considered by most as podium contenders did not qualify for their respective finals. Those athletes were defending champion in the 100m, Fred Kerley, defending bronze medalist in the 1500m, Mohammed Katir, and Timothy Cheruiyot, the Olympic silver medalist from 2021, the World champion in 2019, and the World championships silver medalist last year in the 1500m. Timothy placed ninth in his semifinal and Mohammed placed tenth, making them both miss out on the final. Fred placed third in his heat so he missed out on getting the big Q meaning getting an automatic qualification to the next round, so he would have to rely on time to advance to the next round. But, unfortunately, he was bumped out of a spot due to the faster times in the following heats.
American brings home the Gold in the 100m
Yesterday, in the final of the men’s 100m, Noah Lyles won in a time of 9.83 which tied the World Lead held by Zharnel Hughes who placed third in this final. Very early on in this race, Christian Coleman, the 2019 World champion bolted out to a lead, it looked like Noah Lyles was out of it and that he would have to do something special to win. He did something special alright, he passed Coleman who had faded and Noah crossed the line in first place. This race was very fast and the gap between first and eighth place was only a quarter of a second.
Cheptegei wins third straight 10000m title
In the men’s 10000m yesterday, the reigning champion and World record holder Joshua Cheptegei won his third straight 10000m title in a time of 27:51.42, a season-best for him. During the span of the race, Joshua stayed up at the front until about halfway through when he dropped to 14th place, it seemed like he might stay there, but he persevered and made his way back to the front and took the lead with one lap to go and ran away with it, running a 53-second last lap to win his third straight title.
The Race of The Day
Like yesterday, the race of the day is a 100m race, today in the women’s 100m Sha’Carri Richardson, the American Champion will face off against the Jamaicans, such as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce the reigning champion and six-time World Champion in this event, and Shericka Jackson who won the 200m in the World Championships last year and placed second in the 100m there as well. This race will be one to watch as Sha’Carri tries to win her first World Championship.
Athletes To Watch For Today
Sha’Carri Richardson
As I said above Sha’Carri Richardson is on a quest to win her first World Championship. Today, she will have to make it through the semifinals, and then if she qualifies, the finals. Sha’Carri is an athlete that has the speed that could win a title and beat the reigning champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. These races will be very entertaining to watch and Sha’Carri Richardson is one to watch for.
Grant Holloway
Grant Holloway, the two-time defending World champion in the 110m hurdles, is an athlete to watch for. Today, he will be competing in the Semifinals, and if he qualifies, the Final. Grant going into his semifinal has the fastest qualifying time and is the heavy favorite to win the title, it will be interesting to see what happens and if Grant Holloway wins once again, and that is why you need to watch for Grant Holloway.
How To Watch Day Three
