Big News in Budapest

Ingebrigsten gets upset for the second year in a row.

You read that right, Jakob Ingebrigsten the world leader in this event and the heavy favorite to win this event was upset yesterday. Josh Kerr, from Great Britain, was the one to do it, and unfortunately for Jakob, Josh was the second consecutive Great Britain athlete to beat him. Jakob later said in an interview that he was not feeling 100% during the race, but no matter how Jakob felt Josh Kerr still ran an outstanding race and in the future, he will defend his title well.

American 100m champions easily advance to the next round.

Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles both won their 100m finals just a few days ago and another thing they have in common is that they both came to Budapest with the goal of winning the 100m-200m double, and it’s looking good for them so far. Both of them won their heats and some of the fastest times amongst the heats, Sha’Carri with the fastest qualifying time and Noah with the third fastest time. Alongside, Sha’Carri and Noah, two other Americans are also looking good through the first round. Those athletes are Gabby Thomas and Kenny Bednarek. All four athletes will be competing in the Semifinals today.

The Race(s) of The Day

Today, we have two races for the Race of the Day, those races are the first round of the men’s 5000m and the final of the women’s 400m hurdles. In the women’s 400m hurdles, it is the Femke Bol show, as she tries to get a title at this year’s World Championships after not getting one in the mixed 4x400 title after falling in the last 5 meters. In the men’s 5000m, it will be a similar storyline as Jakob Ingebrigsten tries to defend his 5000m title from last year’s championship. It will be interesting to see how he performs and if his not being 100% affects him advancing.

Athletes To Watch For Today

Femke Bol

Femke Bol, the number 1 ranked 400m hurdler in the world, will have a great opportunity to win a title today in the 400m hurdles. As you may know the World Record holder in the event, Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone unfortunately had a small knee injury going into these championships, which caused her to withdraw from the competition completely. Before that, she was focusing on the 400m and didn’t even plan on running the 400m hurdles at the World Championships. This gives Femke a great opportunity to win a title and she is the obvious favorite to win this race today, and she is one you need to watch for today.

Joshua Cheptegei

Joshua is coming off winning his 10000m gold on the 2nd day of competition and today he will be competing in the first round of an event he holds the World Record in, the 5000m. Obviously, he is not going to be running the World Record in the first round, and that probably isn’t what he wants to happen either. The 5000m race is long enough that if you are at the back during one part of the race you can still come back and win, as Joshua did in the 10000m, no matter how Joshua races this I have full confidence that he will advance. Joshua is a great runner to watch race and you should watch him today.
