Kicking For Home Guide to Budapest Day 8

Welcome back to the Kicking For Home Guide to Budapest and the eighth day of the World Championships. It is the second to last day of competition and in the first seven days we had some great races and performances, but more are to come today and tomorrow, let me tell you about them.

Big News in Budapest

Noah Lyles completes the double

Yesterday, in the last event of the day, Noah Lyles, the 100m champion completed the 100m-200m double. Lyles had a dominant race winning by almost a quarter of a second, faster than fellow American, Erriyon Knighton. Alongside, Lyles and Knighton on the podium was Letsile Tebogo who also podiumed in the 100m. Looking ahead to the Paris Olympics in 2024, Noah Lyles will be an obvious favorite to transfer his World Championships titles to winning Olympic titles.

Mu falls and bounces back to make it to the Final

Yesterday, the reigning Olympic and World champion, Athing Mu, fell in her Semifinal. But, have no fear because Mu was able to catch herself before losing too much time, and she was able to catch up and ended up placing 2nd in her heat. Alongside, Mu her fellow American teammates Nia Akins and Raevyn Rogers also qualified for the final. In the final, Mu will definitely be a strong contender to defend her title.

Shericka Jackson wins second straight title

In the women’s 200m final, yesterday Shericka Jackson won her second straight title at the 200m distance. She beat the two Americans, Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson who placed second and third accordingly, to win her title. Shericka also ran the second-fastest time of all time and the championship record to win the title. In the Olympics next year, She will be by far the favorite to defend her title.

The Race of The Day

The race of the day today is the final of the women’s 5000m, where the World record holder, Faith Kipyegon will see if she can win the World title and complete the 1500m-5000m. But it won’t be easy because the defending 5000m and 10000m Olympic champion Sifan Hassan, will also be in this race. Hassan hasn’t had the championships she might have hoped for and she hopes to win this and win her first title at this championships. This race will be one you need to watch.

Athletes to Watch For Today

Alicia Monson

The American record holder in this event Alicia Monson is an athlete you need to watch for. Monson placed fifth in the women’s 10000m final, finishing just a few seconds behind the leaders. Monson has had experience running in the fastest races which is shown by her multiple appearances in Diamond League races and placing highly in those races. Monson will be a podium contender in this final and an athlete you need to watch for.

Leo Neugebauer

Leo Neugebauer who was on this list yesterday, had himself a day. Neugebauer currently leads the field in points going into the final day. The Decathlon only has a few events left, those being the 110m Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, and the 1500m. Neugebauer will be a strong contender going into the final day and he is someone you should watch for.

Coverage will begin at 12:00 a.m. CDT and will go on until 3:00 a.m. CDT on CNBC. After that coverage will resume at 12:30 pm CDT and will go on until 3:00 pm on CNBC.
