Big News in Budapest

Big fall in the women’s 10000m

Sifan Hassan, was one of the favorites to win the 10000m at this year’s World Championships, and up until the closing meters of the race, it was looking like Sifan would win. But, in a very unfortunate turn of events Sifan misstepped and fell, and Gudaf Tsegay who was closely battling Sifan for the win, crossed the finish line first.

All three Americans advance to the Semis

In the opening round of the women’s 1500m, the favorites, Sifan Hassan and Faith Kipyegon easily advanced to the next round and so did the U.S women. Cory Mcgee, Sinclaire Johnson, and Nikki Hiltz all navigated their heats with ease placing fourth, second, and third respectively. Today, they will compete in their Semifinals with Cory and Sinclaire going first in the first semifinal and Nikki following them in the second semifinal.

American World Record in the mixed 4x4

In the final event of the competition yesterday, the mixed 4x4, another fall dictated the result. The top team entering the final, the U.S., one of the youngest teams in the field with an average age of 22, and the Netherlands were neck and neck going into the final leg where the Netherlands handed it off to their anchor, Femke Bol. Femke who is the second-greatest 400m hurdler of all time had a lead and to most, it didn’t seem like she would lose it. But, the U.S. was handing it off to their anchor, Alexis Holmes. With 100m remaining Alexis came up onto Femke’s shoulder and began to pull even, up until about ten meters remaining it looked like the Netherlands would win. But, unfortunately for the Netherlands, Femke fell and dropped the baton, the U.S. took the lead and the win, and even better the World Record in a time of 3:08.80.

The Race of The Day

The Race of the Day is the men’s 100m final where we will see if the prerace favorites, the likes of the Americans Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley, and the Great Britain athlete Zharnel Hughes will win or if they get beat by the less known athletes and if the Americans can win the title for the fourth straight year in a row. Noah Lyles earlier this week on Instagram made a post saying that he would run 9.65 in the 100m and 19.10 in the 200m, which would be a World Record. These predictions will make this final interesting and maybe even one of the fastest ever.

Athletes To Watch For Today

Noah Lyles

As I said just above Noah Lyles is someone you need to watch for. Noah who is a 200m specialist, has decided to double this year at the World Championships and he has already shown dominance, currently holding the second fastest time amongst the field. Noah is a very entertaining athlete to watch, and one you need to watch for today.

Sifan Hassan

Sifan Hassan, unfortunately, fell in the closing meters and placed 11th yesterday in the women’s 10000m, a race that was a tactical affair. Today she will begin a different pursuit for winning gold in the 1500m and 5000m, as she runs in the second semifinal of the women’s 1500m alongside the World Record holder Faith Kipyegon and the American Nikki Hiltz. You are going to want to watch for Sifan because she very well could be the main threat to Faith Kipyegon.
