A kick is a term that all runners of different speeds and experiences know. But, a non-runner or someone just getting into the sport might not know what it is. At first, you may think it is kicking someone, but it is completely different. At the end of a long race or seemingly long race, there is always a sprint to the finish line, which is a kick. Some runners have great kicks others do not and tend to get outkicked. Having a kick is a characteristic amongst anything else, when you watch a race one of the first things the announcers will say about someone with a great kick is that they have a great kick. However, a kick is sometimes hard to come by, it comes through intense speed sessions and endurance work. A common theme among athletes with a good kick is that they like to sit and kick, sitting and kicking means that someone will wait at the back or towards the back of the field and then at the end kick to get back to the front. This may seem like a straightforward way to win races and run fast times but it doesn’t always work. There is a way to run the kick out of runners, the key is to take the race out hard and push the pace making it harder for them to unleash their kick and making it harder for them to relax. A very common term in running is kicking for home or the finish line. At kicking for home track and field media we have set out to give you a place to learn about the sport you love, Running. Kicking for home will be a weekly newsletter telling you about the biggest races and the fastest times being run and any other topics related to Track and Field.
